There's an upbeat feeling the moment you step into the dental office of Dr. Arun Narang & Associates.

A muted lilac-blue reception area with hand-painted floral accents and the bantering camaraderie of staff is at once welcoming and relaxing. Friendly administrative staff take the time to exchange a few words with you and offer a magazine to peruse during your short wait. Long gone are days of the dreary waiting rooms, the piercing sound of a drill wailing from the back halls. In fact, at this multi-disciplinary dental office, sophisticated technology is replacing the dreaded drill. "With the level of technology now available, we have all but eliminated the pain associated with coming to the dentist," explains Dr. Narang. "Our goal is to make visiting the dentist as comfortable a trip as possible."

For people who find the drill unsettling, there is a compact piece of equipment called the KCP Whisperjet, a revolutionary alternative for simple fillings in adults and children. "Fine particles of sand under compressed air gently cut the tooth," explains Dr. Narang. "There's no vibration and no friction." This noise-free, pain-free, drill-free cavity preparation system brings new hope to dental phobics. Across all of North America, fewer than 300 units are in use. Fortunately, one of them happens to be in Dr. Narang's Mississauga office.

Dr. Arun Narang, a dental surgeon, along with Dr. Nasser Derakshan, a certified periodontist, Dr. Oleh Korol, a certified oral surgeon, and Doctors Sunita Joshi and Edward Venerus, both dental surgeons, share a flourishing practice because of the things they do with a difference.

This high-tech piece of head gear with a 3-D screen and built-in sound lets patients play video games, view a dental education presentation, or watch a movie. "We also have something called CASEY, the latest interactive patient education system covering any topic you can imagine in dentistry," says Dr. Narang. You walk away with a good idea about the procedure you've had or will have in the future.

His practise is also one of the few in the city with chair-side video imaging in every room "which allows us to show you difficult-to-see areas of your mouth," explains Dr. Narang, "you'll better understand what we are saying. The idea is to ensure greater communication between doctor and patient."

From the most high-tech cosmetic dentistry, such as porcelain veneers, aesthetic crown and bridge work and porcelain fillings, to implants, tooth whitening, and orthodontics (braces), Dr. Narang & Associates provide a broad range of preventative, restorative and cosmetic treatments for patients of all ages.
